Rio Grande Free-Net was founded in the early 1990's by Don Furth who was a Data Systems Manager at El Paso Community College. Don recognized the need for free access to the information available on the Internet so he started the Rio Grande Free-Net and became the first Internet Service Provider in the El Paso area.

While things have certainly changed since RGFN first "opened its doors", EPCC endeavors to continue this legacy by providing free Internet access to it's Students, Faculty, and Staff.
