RGFN User's Guide
Lynx Commands
You can move around the World Wide Web in two ways
by browsing and selecting links to explore and by issuing commands to go
directly to a specific Internet resource with a URL. The WWW browser
installed on the Rio Grande Free-Net is LYNX. When you enter LYNX, a
default first screen comes up. The default screen is a text file that is
linked to documents on the local system, documents on other systems,
gophers, and other accessible programs.
Use the following commands to operate in LYNX:

Options
- Editor:
- If non-empty, it allows editing mode when an e is pressed. Any
valid text editor may be entered here.
- Bookmark file:
- If non-empty, it specifies the name of the bookmark
file. If the filename is not absolute, then the path begins in your
home directory.
- Personal Mail Address:
- You may set your mail address here so that when
mailing messages to other people or files to yourself, your email
address can be automatically filled in. Your email address will also be
sent to HTTP servers in a field form.
- Searching type:
- If set to case sensitive, user searches invoked by
the / command will be case sensitive substring searches. The default
is set for case insensitive substring searches.
- Character set:
- This option allows you to set up the default character
set for your specific terminal. The character set provides mapping of
8 bit ISO Latin character entities into viewable characters and is only
important if you will be viewing these type of characters with LYNX.
- VI keys:
- If set to 'ON' then the lowercase h, j, k, and l keys will be
mapped to left, down, up and right, respectively.
- Emacs keys:
- If set to 'ON' then the CTRL-P, CTRL-N, CTRL-F, and
CTRL-B keys will be mapped to up, down, right, and left, respectively.
- Keypad as arrows or numbered links:
- This option gives the choice between
navigating with the keypad and having every link numbered so that the links
may be selected by numbers instead of moving to them with the arrow keys.
- User Mode:
- Beginner - Shows two extra lines of help at the bottom of the screen.
- Intermediate - The normal status line appears (default).
- Advanced - The URL is shown on the status line.(also see
URL section in
this guide).
