Getting Started on Rio Grande Free-Net

There are many different ways to access the Rio Grande Free-Net. Local users can dial in using the home PC and a modem, distant users can connect to RGFN using telnet access.

Dial-In Access

1. Activate your communications software:
   • Set your terminal emulation to VT100 or VT102
   • Set you communications parameters to: 8 Data Bits, N Parity, 1 Stop Bit
2. Dial 775-5600 to reach the Rio Grande Free-Net.
3. The system will respond with the following message:

      When login: appears below, type visitor and press Enter or Return.
      SunOS (rgfn.epcc.edu)
      login:
   

4. At this point you are ready to enter RGFN.

Note: If you have call waiting, you will need to deactivate this feature before entering the RGFN. Most telephone systems allow you to temporarily do this by sending a *70 before the dialing string. If in doubt check with your telephone company for the means to disable call waiting during your connection to RGFN.

Internet Access

You can reach the Rio Grande Free-Net by telnet. The address is rgfn.epcc.edu or 198.213.188.2
